bio-rhythm
This questions is for anyone that cares to answer and help out. I have been taking pictures for a 10 years now but for myself. All of my friends an family keep asking me "how come i don't do photography for a living". Lately i been thinking about a career change and do something that i love doing for a living. I guess my question is. Does anyone know an agency where i can send my photos? Or a photographer looking for an assistant???
art_haykin
First off, what kind of pictures have you been takng for ten years, and if, after ten years, why do you want to assist? Further, how much business experience do you have, and are you determined, ambitious, a born problem solver, and have some inspiration? If you want to do strictly creative work as an artist, you should allow a minimum of 5 to 10 years to start making any important money, unless you are exceptionally gifted as not only a photographer, but as a self-promoter as well. The immediate money is in social and commercial work.Meanwhile, don't quit your day job.
Jerry_
Can you support your style of living on $400 one month and then $1,600 the next month? Only you can set goals for your approach to photography as a profession. The previous comment sums it up nicely, but don't forget the little things like taxes (federal) and sales tax (state) -- along with any business licenses you may need to operate as a business. And a bank account for your business is needed as well.
