sp-350 zoom error?

I just put a brand new battery in my sp-350 and now it is not working

correctly. It is the same kind of battery that came with the camera except it

is an energizer brand. I can view the pictures on my camera but I can not take

any. When I hit the power on it makes some wierd beeping sound and than

says "zoom error". I am not sure what is wrong but the camera is practically

new and has not been dropped or mis handled in any way.
