saturno_dona
Hi to everybody. I need some advices, if possible.I've to submit a photographic feature to a magazine. I want to send them about 40 pictures (enough ?); these pics arein TIFF format, 50 MB each from slides scan but they wantJPEG 20-25 Mb file size.If I save my 50 mb Tiff in Jpeg I've got a much smaller size than 20 mb.So my question is: any method to get a 20-25 mb JPEG file from a 50 mbTiff file ?Thank you very much.Lucio Donàsadona@tin.it
garethspics
In Photoshop you select highest quality ( 12) I think, before saving. That will give you lowest compression and therefore the largest file size. I am not familiar with other software, but it ought to give you the option. Ed_Ingold
Photoshop - "save as" JPEG - quality 12 (or lower).
ted_marcus1
A JPEG file from a 50M TIFF acceptable for publication shouldn't be much larger than 2 megabytes. I have delivered JPEG files of that size from 4000dpi scans for magazine publication, including a full-color cover, with good results. I just adjusted the compression setting in Paint Shop Pro to produce a file of that size. I have experimented with saving some of my 64M TIFFs at the minimum possible JPEG compression, which I think came out at around 15M. Viewed at 100%, I had a lot of trouble telling the difference between those files and the 2M versions. On a magazine cover (or an 8x10 print) the difference should not be visible at all. Have you asked the magazine's photo editor what size JPEGs they prefer?
gordonr
There are several factors involved, so it is best to ask. A good starting point is <a href="http://www.disc-info.org/specifications/isr.asp">DISC (Digital) Image Submission Recommendations</a> (http://www.disc-info.org/specifications/isr.asp) <p> Also read my article on <a href="http://www.photo.net/learn/jpeg/">Jpeg Compression</a> (http://www.photo.net/learn/jpeg/)
StuartMoxham
Are you sure that they are not refering to the size when the image is open in photoshop for example a an RGB image 2000x3000 pixels comes will have file size of about 23mb. If you save it as a TIF with no compression the file will be around 23mb if you save the same image as a JPEG MAX QUALITY in photoshop it will give a compessed file size of around 3-5 mb depending on the image. You should call them and ask what they want. I am guessing that they mean an image around 2000x3000 pixels (23mb) saved as a jpeg.
