B&W inkjet printing (Canon S520?)

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

I am interested in making B&W inkjet prints at home. I have available to me a Canon

S520 printer. This is a 4-color (C, M, Y and K) "bubblejet" printer from circa 2002.

Is there a way to set it up with four different black inks? How does this work? I'm using

Mac OS X, and I'd probably print from PSE3 or even iPhoto. Does one have to configure

the printer driver specially when using four blacks instead of CMYK? Where does one buy

the inks, at least, what does one google for? I'm really at sea here, not even sure if what

I'm trying to do is possible with this equipment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have an S820 which can be fitted with the Lyson B&W kit (six levels of black). I don't think they make one for the 4 color Canon printers.

They also make one for the Epson line. If you are "serious" about doing B&W you could buy a 'cheap' Canon 6 color model and use the Lyson system. I am incredibly pleased with the results which are of exhibition quality.

They rec. certain type of cotton based papers and the prints will last for decades. You can read more about it here.
