Boston to Kingston Ontario Canada

I will be driving in a couple of weeks from Boston to Kingston Ontario to attend a

weeklong photo class. I plan on not rushing and taking a couple of days to make the

390 mile drive.

Based on a yahoo map it looks like will be going rt 90 to rt 12 to rt 401 in Ontario

I like landscape photography and would like to take some photographys along the

way to break up the drive. Does anyone know any locations that are interesting to

photograph along my route. Small detours are welcome

Thanks--Ed

It's been years since I've been in that area and I don't have a road atlas handy.

But, it seems like you are taking MassPike, NY Thruway to Niagra and then around the lake. There are the very interesting historical subjects (other than the big waterfall (grin) along the Niagra river.

Kingston is a good ways around the lake If I remember correctly and t is not that far from the 1000 Islands on the St Lawrence. Consider at least one leg of your trip going through the 1000 Islands and NY State. A lot less boring than the interstates.

You could head up 89 to Burlington VT, into NY, throuh the Adirondaks and up that way also. A lot more interesting and a lot more beautiful.

Best of luck.

I could also suggest the Pike to Rt 7 north - it follows the mountains the whole way up to Lake Champlain at least. Beautiful ride. There are some nice places along the way - Mt Greylock, North Adams, Lenox, Bennington. There are at least 4 or 5 waterfalls along the way, too.

I'd heavily suggest the book "New England Waterfalls" by Parsons & Watson. Also check out The Trustees of the Reservations (www.thetrustees.org/) for their locations in the Berkshires - some are quite beautiful. Also the Mass State Parks (http://www.state.ma.us/dem/forparks.htm) has a number of parks in that area for some ideas. Sorry I don't know more about the Vermont stretch.
