Any comments about the Nikkor 35mm f3.5 AI lens?

Hello wonderful people - I wonder anyone out there can help me!? I'm

after a cost effective bunch of lenses to use with my FM3a and I've

found a Nikkor 35mm f3.5 AI for sale here in England.

I've found very little to read about this lens in order to get an

assessment of its qualities - Roland Vink doesn't mention it and

neither does the Photography in Malaysia website. Is it that bad?

The 35mm AF-D F2 can be had here second hand for about £30 more than

the AI 3.5 - but the dodgy aperture blade problem has put me off

going for one of these.

I'd be sincerely grateful for any comments you can find the time to

give me on this mystery lens.

I have been using Nikons for several decades, and I have many books that list every item ever produced from Nikon... there was no 35mm f/3.5 Nikkor for film cameras.

There was a 28mm f/3.5, a 35mm f/2.5 series E, a zoom that started at 35mm (to 70mm) that was f/3.5, but the slowest 35mm Nikkor was a f/2.8.

Re-check the spec's on the lens.

Mark and Al; there was a 3.5cm F3.5 "Made in ocuppied Japan" NIPPON KOGAKU TOKYO LENS in LEICA Screw Mount; they have a 34.5mm filter size; chrome barrels

Yeah... I was too broad when I said "film camera". I know about the rangefinder lenses, but Mark's question was about the AI mount, to be used on an FM3a, so when I said there were no 35mm f/3.5 lenses, I meant in AI mount to be used on Nikon SLRs.

Hello everyone - thanx for your answers. You are of course correct - there is no such lens. I contacted the dealer and asked him about it and it was all down to a typing error - the 35mm 3.5 was in actual fact a 28mm 3.5.!! I suppose the moderator can remove this entry now as it has fulfilled its function.
