thomas_sullivan
Andrew Lee mentioned in Ray's post "Yankee" that my pic reminded him of Louis Faurer's pic. I can honestly say, not that it really matters, that I took that pic before I ever heard of Faurer. But last year the Philadelphia Art Museum had Louis Faurer's exhibition that the Louis Faurer book was a companion to. I was stunned at how good his work from around 1947- 1952, or so, of New York was. Amazing work.

For you near West Hollywood, CA, The Stephen Cohen Gallery has a Louis Faurer exhibit until May 8th. It is well worth the visit. The book (above) is definitely worth buying.

Can you tell I'm a little in awe of some of the work he has done. Doesn't hurt either that he was a Philadelphia based photographer who frequented New York a lot...hmmmm, now who does that around here ;o)

ray .
Thanks Thomas, I'll try to check that show. I'd rather be back in NYC making photos though. ;) Maybe LA still has some waiting.
jake_tauber
Faurer was a wonderful photographer who was unknown by most. It's clear that he and Robert Frank influenced each other. Faurer died last year (see attached obit). The Tucker book is filled with terrific images. I was lucky enough to see the retrospective when it was in San Diego...one great pic after another. In addition to Cohen, Jan Kesner in LA has a nice selection of his work.

Troll
I always thought that his pictures were intellectually a little too clever, and visually rather boring.
