andrew_chen3
Will the zoom level of two 300mm lenses be the same? Say I have a 70- 300mm macro lens and then get a 300mm telephoto prime lens, will the level of zoom be similar. Or will the telephoto lens get a closer zoom? jamesp
they'll be exactly the same, unless the zoom lens isn't "really" 300mm, but it probably is.
brentdlong
The only difference is that the prime lens should be better. That is, of course, if it is made by a quality brand. If the zoom was made high quality by a good name, and the prime was not, the zoom would probably still be better. -Brent
alex_lofquist
Are you asking about the nearest focus of the lenses under consideration, which will affect their macro capabilities? Close focussing is one of the most important characteristics of any long lens.
andrew_chen3
no just what the previous two posts addressed, whether or not the zoom level will be the same in terms of magnification
tito sobrinho
A zoom at 300mm if, it is really 300mm has the same magnification as a 300mm prime.
