john_chan2
Hey Martin, I really like your homemade rangefinder technique but I have a slightly more convenient modification to it. Most of us are right eye or left eye dominant. My dominant eye is my left for example. I discovered that you can with a little practice calibrate features on your opposite hand when you are pointing to the thing that you're trying to determine the range of. Point at the object using your dominant eye and opposite hand, close your dominant eye and see where the object is on your pointing hand with your non-dominant eye. You have several reference points on your hand (minus your index finger). 3 knuckles and 3 hollows between your knuckles. I "calibrated" my right pointing hand with pen marks the other day and just walking around and pointing at things I think it will be easy to remember where the marks are in no time flat. How's that for multi-tasking? I think my hand is good for about 30' (infinity). LOL!
jeff_drew4
:-) . . . and if you use a "Sharpie" or other indelible marker, the calibration marks won't wash off anytime soon! :-)
