x -ray film loose its shine after processing

Recommended Posts

I am using my own formulation for processing x-ray films. The

developer and fixer both are rapid. The developing time is about 20

seconds and fixing time is arround 15 seconds. The fixer is hypo

based non hardning fixer. The processed film looses its shine but

otherwise give perfect results. Can anybody tell be whether it is

because of developer or fixer. Please also let me know what should I

do to achieve proper shine on the film.

Thanks.

Most X-Ray film has emulsion coated on both sides of the support. This gives it a matte surface on both sides rather than a shiny support side and a matte emulsion side.

The matte surface is slightly duller than some films, but not excessively so.

So, I'm not sure what you are refering to. The developer should make no difference. The hardner level in the fix might change things. IDK for sure.

I've processed half speed blue x-ray film, and fixed it with both Kodak's powder (sodium thiosulfate, hardening) and polymax (ammonium thiosulfate, non hardening) fixers. In both cases I get a fairly glossy surface to both sides when done.

Maybe it's the way you're drying your film? I haven't used a processor, but with times of 20 and 15 seconds, it sounds like you are using one. Try a different drying method perhaps.

Good luck
