Thanks for those direct links to the Pulitzer site; certainly explains why these people were selected. I was on my way out to dinner last night when I noticed the announcement of the prizes and my quick Googling did not turn up the site. Interesting that two of the three were women. Could it be that the scarcity of female participants in this forum is due to the fact that the women are out taking pictures while we remain seated in front of our computers?

Looking at some of the other Pulitzers, I particularly liked 1996's feature photography, by Stephanie Welsh.

 

I guess if you are motivated by a subject matter it doesn't really matter who you are or how much technical skill you have (ie: the 1996 shots are far from great technically).
