Quality of Hasselblad 1.4XE and 2XE Teleconverter with CFI 250mm Lens

As a frequent traveller to Alaska, I plan to acquire the above

Hasselblad teleconverters and use them with my 250mm lens to

photograph wildlife. On paper, with the 1.4XE, the 250 will become

as something like 370mm/F8; while with the 2XE, it will become a

powerful 500mm/F11. Could someone tell me how good or bad the

picture quility will be (I plan to use fast film to compensate the

slow aperature). Please help!

As stated above the 250 in pretty dim at 5.6 unless it's sunny and

for most of us we tend as outddoor shooters to be looking for

early or late light so the viewfinder is even dimmer...add a 1.4 for

f8 or 2x for f11 forget it, powerfull but how are you going to see to

focus? I mean it's tough enough to shoot landscapes but to

shoot wildlife which moves waste of time go to a camera store

and rent this combo for the weekend and try it under varying

conditions. If you want long then get a longer telephoto...350 or

500 apo, Jim Zuckerman shoots wildlife with these on a Mamiya

RZ but his 500 is a 5.6., have look at some of his books to see

what can be done.

I have used the 250mm with the vivitar doubler and the mutar duobler and the lense focuses just fine. I also use the mutar on the 500mm apo and it focuses fine too. I was in the Yukon with the 500mm and a doubler and it was necessary. So I fugure the same for Alaska because Alaska is large and yuodid not say where in Alaska you were going. Don't be afraid. the lense will focus just fine. I project my slides 9 feet square and it is just amazing!!!! Please Please do use a tripod.
