kate_shanahan
I am desperately searching for a user manual for either the Nikon F401 or N4004. I have been told they are the same model. I was given a Nikon F401 and cannot use it on the manual setting as I have no idea how to. Could someone please, please help me out by directing me as to where I can download a copy of the user manual?? XX Katie

david_stoerman
Kate, If you cannot find a manual, shoot your questions up here. I used a 4004 for a LONG time. -Dave
andrew_certain
Not download, but you can purchase one here: http://cameramanuals.freeservers.com/manual.htm I also have a 4004 and used it for a long time (I think I even have a manual somewhere). For the manual setting, set the aperture and shutter speed dials where you want them. There are three lights in the viewfinder that indicate exposure (+, 0, -), and another one that indicates flash (lighting bolt -- if on, flash is ready, if flashing, flash is off but suggested). If you set the aperture dial on S, it will set the correct aperture for the selected shutter speed. If you set the shutter speed dial on A, it will select the correct shutter speed for the selected aperture. If you set them both on S/A, it does full program. If the lights are alternating between + and -, it means that you don't have the aperture on the lens set to its maximum number. Let me know if you have any other questions. sarah_legaspi
Hi, I'm also after a Nikon F401 user manual and have found a couple of the places mentioned on the internet where one can be bought... but in the mean time... I've just started a (beginners) photography class and am required to find out what the closest distance is that I can take a picture from - the lens that I am using is a AF Nikkor 35-70mm 1:33.3-4.5. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance! cheers, Sarah
lazy_sod
Probably a bit late for the original poster, but maybe of use to someone finding this page through Google: A free PDF manual for the N4004s, which is virtually identical to the N4004/F-401 in operation, can be found here, along with manuals for several other cameras: http://www.lensinc.net/freeuser.html Note: The manual is quite large (9MB), since it's scanned.
