john_sandys1
Has anyone got a favourite liquid dev that they use for Tri-X, which gives similar results to D76 1+1. Regards, John.
gaetano catelli
Ansel Adams used HC-110 with Tri-X.
hans_beckert
FG-7 with sodium sulphite is supposed to be similar.
jon_porter1
HC-110 or DD-X would be my choice. Although a bit grainy in 35mm, FX39 also works well with Tri-X.
jim_appleyard
Photographers Formulary (800-922-5255; photoformulary.com) has a liquid dev. called BW-44. I'm still in the process of using it. Their directions call for a 1+1+5 dilution (it's a two-solution kit) and a time of 10 min. with Tri-x. Gives me good negs and good prints, but is it close to Tri-X in D-76???? Actually, I never gave that any thought, but grain good, contrast is good and negs print easily. Do you like my ultra-scientific methods of testing? Try it, the price is good, $7.95 +- for 5 liters of working soloution. You can dilute it up to 1+1+20 if you like.
canon_eos_rules
I used T-Max developer with Tri-X film once and got surprisingly good results.
silent1
I use HC-110 -- I keep it in concentrate (USA version), dilute immediately before use, and discard after use; I use it at 1:63 (half of Dilution B) for the most part in order to get longer process times. I've been very happy with the negatives I've processed so far, at least for 35 mm -- takes some getting used to, looking at 35 mm again after shooting nothing but 120 for several months and no 35 mm B&W for about 20 years. peter_svensson
Sprint has a liquid developer, used 1+9, that is designed to give the same results as D-76 1+1. I've tried it, and like it well enough, but can't say if it's identical.
rustys pics
Ilford DD-X works beautifully with Tri-X, and is great for pushing. I like Tri-X and Rodinal too, although it does not look like D-76. It was good enough for Helmut Newton and Ralph Gibson though....
