What is your safety blanket?

For someone constantly afraid of missing interesting/important street

shots, a safety blanket is a must. Mine used to be a Nikon Coolpix

800, now an Olympus Stylus Epic with Tri-X 400 or Provia 100.

What are yours ?

No Picture please =8-).

I generally carry an M6 even when I'm not particularly out to do photography. I have a Canon 4mp digital elph which I took out the past few days as a safety blanket. It's light, fits in my pocket and produces good photos. I think people are far more oblivious to the digital elph than the M6, at least here in central london where its extremely common to see people using a zillion variations of small digital cameras anywhere and everywhere. Too bad they're so unresponsive.

I'm not afraid of missing important street shots. That's because street shots aren't important. They're just street shots.

And if I miss something interesting, oh well. There will always be something else that's interesting.

Who was it who said, when asked if he worried about missing a picture while reloading his cameras, "There are no pictures when I'm changing film?"

Ansco B2 Speedex Junior. A crappy little folding 6x6, fixed focus double meniscus lens, fixed slow shutter that doesn't require cocking, and apertures from f/11 to f/32. Loaded with ISO 400, it's good for daylight street photography almost anywhere, even in gloomy weather. It cost $7, so I'm not worried about someone stealing it. There's not much to set, so I don't miss shots while setting the camera. It fits in a coat pocket when folded, but still produces nice big negatives, and for a crappy little camera it produces some of the best negatives I get.

Gotta get another one -- the door latch just broke and it won't stay closed...
