kevin_leong2
I am expatriate from San Francisco currently residing in Jakarta, Indonesia. I have been living in SE Asia for over 7 years and would like to have coffee with any Leica fans in Jakarta. I speak alittle bahasa Indonesia. I live in South Jakarta, near Pondah Indah Mall or Jakarta Indonesia School. I recently purchased a M7 with 50mm f/2.0 Summ. Iwould like to discuss about techniques, filters and good prices to buy Leica assessories in SE Asia. Please reply to this post should you be interested. I am a friendly, woody and easy person. Thanks for reading this post.
pierre_claquin1
Hi Kevin I have been in Jakarta only 5 months but the place to go is probably the Kaffee Photo , Plaza Kemang, Jl Kemang Raya no 15 . In the basement there is the photo studio of Deniek and Karin Sukaraya. Deniek is a fervent Leica'ite (among many talents) and I am sure you will have a good time. He speaks English. Deniek is generally there in the afternoon and like many other places in Jakarta, nothing moves before 10:30 am. There are several books on sale and many magazines to browse through (including Leica Photography). Good luck
c_d5
There are many good stores. If you want to get good film for cheap, go to "Jakarta Foto", it is on the street behind Sari Pan Pacific Hotel. Jalan Agus Halim. There also a store called "Nissin Photo" that sell some leica stuff, new and used the guy who own it called Harling I believe. But, be careful and do inspection on any used item, it got some rolleiflexes for cheap, though the shutter is not accurate, tested it. Next, there is this store in a mall in front of the Marriot Hotel, that sells many good equipment, It is on Jalan Jendral Sudirman. I am not sure, but they sell Leica stuff also. Beware of the film processing in Indonesia, they don't really take good care of processing, so good film such as real a or NPH, etc will all come out the same as the cheaper brand film. There is also a Leica Society in Indonesia, just do some googling asking Leica Club Jakarta. You should come out with something.<div></div>
kevin_leong2
To Pierre and Chisso, thank you for your constructive input to my previous post. I will check out Kaffee Photo when time permits (traffic and work). But the way, I buy my most of my film and some equipment at Pasar Baru in Kota. Pasur Baru is a run-down mall which stock variety of films and camera equipment. Also, I develop my colors prints at a professional lab called, "Aneka Gaya". They are also in Kota. They do good work, but as usual in Indonesia you need to keep an eye on them. Once again, thank you.
ray_moth
Hi Kevin, I have lived in Jakarta for over 13 years. I am English by birth but lived in Sydney for 14 years before coming here. The dealer I have found best for Leica stuff in Jakata is "Bursa Kamera Profesional", owned by Koh Abeng, with its main shop on the ground floor in Wisma Benhil on Sudirman. I've bought and sold several Leica cameras through him, including M6TTL, M2, M7, R7, R8, iiic, iiif and a variety of M, R and LTM lenses. Some were new (he orders them from Hong Kong) and some were used. He also has a branch in Ambassador Mall, opposite the Marriott. I've found "Jakarta Foto" to be good for black & white but only at their main shop in Jl. Sabang. They have another branch in Jl. Panglima Polim that I tried once, but the results weren't so good and there was a very limited choice of printing papers. (Don't worry about Masatoshi-san, he sometimes makes comments like that. I wonder what he'll make of "Aneka Gaya"?)
