ShunCheung
What is your budget? IMO the 17-55mm/f2.8 AF-S DX would be a good choice, provided that it fits into your budget.
dennis lee
I think Shun is correct. 17-55. The 50mm is by far the most versatile prime you can own for 35mm film. That would be a 35mm lens on your D2H.
daviddbfotoart
The 17-55 2.8 sits on one of camera bodies permanently. I love it. The 80-200 2.8 sits on the other for portraits. I shoot weddings, but the concept of photo journalism and weddings is not a great deal different in my opinion.
erik_loza
17-35mm, only because I owned it prior to getting the DSLR. Otherwise, it would be the 17-55mm. The, the 80-200mm.
leericks
There is an 80-200 2.8D on my D2H right now. On my other body is the 17-55 2.8. If the 17-55 is on the high side right now you can do a super job witht he 18-70 AFS G lens. I use it when I don't want the extra weight of the 17-55. I have published hundreds of pics taken with this lens. One advantage (in addition to the $300.00 price) is that it is very quiet and focuses fast. It is a gem of a lens for the money. Back to the 80-200 f2.8 D. The non VR version is affordable and one of Nikons sharpest zooms. It is a staple of the photojournalism community. Less than $1000.00 and readily available used for far less. Good luck!

brandonhamilton
My 17-55DX 2.8 almost never comes off my D2X. Sometimes the 70-200 goes on when shooting tighter from a distance... but that's about it!
