Studio Flash with 300D

Has anyone been able to successfully use a 300D with manual

(off camera) studio flash? I need to photograph paintings, many

of which are framed with glass - this makes on camera flash an

absolute menace for obvious reasons. Rumour has it that there

is a hot shoe adaptor but Canon are less than helpful about this!

My two cents:

If you go off camera that more than likely means you'll put the flash on either the right or left side. This could introduce another new problem in that the exposure may be uneven from left to right or vice versa. Can you bounce the flash off the ceiling and thereby provide soft even light?

Not to preach but the other thing you need to consider when taking photos of flat objects is how you compose the shot. If you use wide angle you'll have noticeable edge bending, and the other thing to keep in mind is position of the camera to provide a level vertical and horizontal plane so that the image looks 'flat'

You may also want to review http://www.webphotoschool.com/newschool/Default.asp for a primer on how to shoot two dimensional artwork.
