roger_michel
check the archives. i recall lots of threads on this. the mp6 was a japna-only product that had a few features to distinguish it from MP (covering, engravings, etc.). it is, in short, a collectors item. mp:mp6::m6 millenium:dragon. steve_hoffman
The engraving on top is different from the standard MP. That is the ONLY difference. www.stevehoffman.tv
tcb.photo
Hi Patrick It' a limited, or I guess you might say a prototype MP, that was released in Japan. On the top the engraving is MP 6- as opposed to just MP. There were very few of them made, so you know how that goes in the Leica world, lot's of $$$$. I could never figure out why it was released in Japan as opposed to Germany or the US - go figure. But man they want an arm and a leg for them. roger_michel
actually steve, the covering is real leather on the MP6 -- at least on both the examples i have seen -- rather than the synthetic used on the MP. but at least you're now selling the 45rpm jazz reissues individually! bob l
Steve Hoffman You may want to check out the covering as to being the "ONLY" difference. Bob

roger_michel
that's like asking if she's a real blond. there's just one way to find out for sure, but in the meantime i'll take it on faith.

roger_michel
a bunch of guys -- me included -- willing to spend $1500 on a 1960s design 50/1.4 shouldn't be laughing too hard at somebody willing to pay $10K for a camera body. the cost ratio there is roughly the same as the cost of a low end nikon body to the cost of a nikkor 50/1.4 (which, incidentally, has better MTF numbers than the current 50 summilux). patricks
roger, at least you use your lense (i hope), not keep it behind a glass door. I guess this whole Leica collection thing is just fine and dandy, but it just isn't my cup of tea. $6-8K extra on top of list MP price for a #? Jeeez... steve_barnett2
Looks like you only started the thread so you could come in at the end 'on the moral high ground' Patrick. There is a 'Search' utility for these things.
furcafe
Mr. Barnett: So the guy thinks the MP & MP6 are overpriced, what's it to you? Are you a Leica sales rep?
gerry_szarek
Roger, the canon 50F1.4 is better than there 50F2.0, it's amazing what some manufactures will do to dumb down a perfectly good lens so you are forced to buy the faster and more expensive one. I'll stick with my old M4-P and Hexar RF thank you very much, just as long as the collectors stay away from the stuff I actually need they can keep Leica in business by buying limited production units. karl_georg_wolf
Looking closely it seems the MP-6 was something like a trial-run for the MP ... Best regards
