timmy_taler
Hi, I wonder whether it's useful to use a 210mm lense with a 8x10' fieldcamera for landscape work..!? Anyone doing so? Other Ideas? Thanks. Tim
tedharris
Tim, the Apo Symmar 210 will not cover 8x10
brian_ellis3
Sure, 210 is a nice moderate wide angle for 8x10, I'm sure plenty of people use it. The particular one you mention won't cover 8x10 but others will such as the Schneider 210 G Claron I used to use for 8x10.
ann_m
Timmy, here is a link you may find helpful in determining if a particular lens will cover your format.... http://home.earthlink.net/~eahoo/lenses.html
alan_barton3
I have used my 210 Apo-Symmar on 8x10 and it covers fine with no movements. If in doubt try it. Alan Barton
john_kasaian1
Sure is! The widest lens I use on my 8x10 is a 159mm Wolly.-----Cheers!
edward_burlew
I find the 210 very useful on 8x10 I ahve a 155 and it has a W I D E look about it and the 140's are jsut no quite wide enough. I recently got the 210 XL by Schneider and it is sharp and very useful, but it is by far the heaviest lense kinown to mankind, I use it on a Wisner traditional and on a day of shooting all I can do is carry that one lense BUT that's ok. If unsure then rent borrow etc a simpler 210 like the G claron and even iof you use a hat for the shutter you will find the lense that fits your eye. I did that before committing to the 210 XL. But try the 210's they are very sharp and inexpensive. I was very happy for years witht eh 240 before I went into the 210.
brian_ellis3
Schneider shows the image circle of the 210 APO Symmar as 305 mm at F22, so based on that number it wouldn't cover 8x10 (325 mm, give or take a couple mms, needed for 8x10). But 305 is pretty close so presumaby it will cover 8x10 under some circumstances (e.g. with the bellows extended a good bit beyond infinity and/or a smaller aperture than F22).
