A way to turn off meter in Olympus 35SP?

I just got a used 35SP with a lens cap. Is there some way I can turn

the meter off when not in use? It seems to stay on even I press the

film winding arm all the way back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I meant the camera WITHOUT a lens cap in my original message above.

The metering cell is outside the lens ring so putting a lens cap on will not turn the meter off. The conventional way of keeping the meter from drawing on the battery is to keep the camera in its case. What I do with mine is to partially unscrew the battery holder so that the battery do not make contact with the terminal. It is not an elegant solution but it is the best approach I have come up with since the case to mine has disintegrated with age.

I would go further to say that removing the battery between periods of use is best. - For a more elegant solution to the missing or disintegrated case, use a Lower Pro Z-30 belt pouch, which is large enough slide the 35SP into and comfortable enough to wear at the hip. -

I have the same camera and the same problem.

Once I read about this guy who had put together a little 'patch' that he could cover the metering window with when he wanted to 'turn it off'. I can see how that could work...
