ronald_lamarsh1
I contemplating getting a Schneider Comparon 210mm for my 5x7 enalrger, I won't be going over 16x20. Any thoughts? I just can't afford the $400+ for an el nikkor or rodagon
triblett_lungre_thurd
it'd be fine ronald, i've heard warnings about color fidelity with the comparon line but heard they're plenty sharp and fine for bw prints. how 'bout a used componon(non-s)? should be able to snag one for around $350. could you stick with contact prints till ya save up some more cash? me p.s. here's what goodwin has listed Rodenstock APO-Gerogon 210mm, f9 $ 250.00 Schneider G-Claron 9/210 $ 225.00 Schneider Comparon 210mm, f5.6 glass nice $95.00 they're not new 5.6's... but they're not 1100 bux either... ernest_purdum
If you are intending to enlarge your 5X7 negatives from 2 to 6 time, this is what the Comparon was designed for. (The Componon was optimized for enlargements from ten times up, really big prints if you start with a 5X7 negative.) The neame is easy to confuse with "Componar", but they are unrelated optically. The Componar was a budget-priced line. If in good condition, I think a 210 Comparon should do very well for you.
neil_poulsen1
Occassionally, one can find reasonable deals, under $200, for 190mm, 210mm, and 240mm Componons on EBay and at swap meets. I purchased a 240mm for about $175 on EBay.
ronald_lamarsh1
Thanks to all for all the info. I settled on a 210mm comparon as I'll only go as large as 16x20 from a 5x7 neg. I found one at lens&repro for $75 in mint condition with original box!
