NPC Too Contrasty for Weddings?

Recommended Posts

I shot a roll of NPC accidently mixed in with my usual NPS.I hate

UC & VC for wedding/portrait work due to sucky contrast. Is NPC going

to give me simliar results as these two?The NPC got shot without fill

flash in a backlit situation, exposing for the faces.A situation that

the NC's or NPH record without a blip.Any observations? The film wont

be back untill friday so Im just curious.I went to the Fuji site, the

NPC H&D curve looks pretty steep!

I personally hate this film for skin tones, but that's the main problem in your circumstances. All pro Fuji print films have massive amounts of over-exposure lattitude, and NPC should not 'blow out' nor stick out badly in other respects when comapared to the other shots. With Wedding shoots proof to proof consistency is often more important (up to a point) than actual quality.

Frontier printing tends to exagerate the skin tone problem, while conventional printing on Kodak Portra paper or Fuji type "P" can subdue it. This one is simply a bit up in th air depending on printing. Again, it's the skin tones that are going to stick out as being different, and if they come out too much on the B-B-Q side the lab can probably cheat a bit with knocking down the red even if it means slanting the wedding dress to the cyan side.

I'm curious how this turns out, so keep us informed. NPC is one of those materials you either can't tell from the other films due to lighting or lab printing, or you can't stand it.
