When will Velvia 100 be on the market, anyone?

Recommended Posts

In the USA, Fuji Film USA says in their press kits that it will b available 3rd Quarter

2003. So I assume that will mean some time in July/August/September -- of course

local availability will depend on your dealer ordering it and on demand on the whole

system. Some dealers and labs have very limited supplies to pass out as samples. I've

been shooting with it for the past two weeks. RVP100F is nowhere near as heavily

saturated as RVP but has the distinctive Velvia palette -- doing a to B test shooting in

the field I can say it has a different look from Provia 100F. Although it has three

additional light sensitive emulsion layers and new dyes, Nowhere in the reams of

literature that I have been going through does Fuji claim that either Astia100F or

Velvia100F handles mixed lighting situations (fluorescent + daylight, daylight +

tungsten, daylight + tungsten + fluorescent) in the way that the four layer color

negative films like NPHII do. given daylight balance lighting, the color is more

accurate, but if you want absolutely perfectly accurate color Astia 100F (RAP100F) is

the way to go.

I just got eight rolls (four each of Astia 100 and Velvia 100) from my Fuji Rep today! I'm a professional and made contact with him during a state convention.

Obviously, I haven't shot any yet but am looking forward to testing Astia and Provia side by side both under studio strobes and natural light.

Ellis's comments disturb me a little in that I was hoping for a super saturated 100 speed film. I have no reason to doubt his tests and it will be interesting to see if Fuji keeps both the 50 an 100 speed versions in production.

Velvia 100F has just arrived in the US market, so it is now available. I talked to a Fuji rep higher up in Canada, and he did say the original Velvia 50 IS being discontinued. The replacement is of course 100F. Stock of the 50 will be around till its depleted. Looks like time to stock up. Also there is no mention of a Velvia 100 (not 100F) coming to North America- if there is such a version.
