ok, a few questions.

it gives the option of shooting with 1/2 power, 1/4 power, etc etc.

does this only effect the recycle time of the flash or does it also

effect the lighting of the photo. if i am at f16 and shoot it at half

power i go to f11, how would that effect the lighting of the shot?

also, how does the flash synch effect the photo. why would i want to

shoot at 30th of a second opposed to 100th of a second?

thanks

Shooting at 1/2 power or 1/4 power affects the lighting of the photo. You can open up to compensate for this. However, the maximum range will be reduced at partial power. Shooting at f/16 vs f/11 at half power wouldn't make a whole lot of difference- f/11 is slightly sharper on most lenses, while f/16 has slightly more depth of field.

Shutter speed- if you are ONLY using flash for the illumination, then use the sync speed, whatever it is- typically marked with red or a dot on the shutter speed dial. You would use slower speeds if you are mixing ambient light with the light from the flash. Using slower shutter speeds does not let any additional light from the flash in- you've got it all, already- but increases the ambient light.
