Protecting a camera while riding a horse

Hello, one quick question. I was seriously considering riding across

country horse-back. Well at actually around a 200 mile ride over

several days/weeks/mounths. Anyways has anyone ever done somthing

simular, and if so how in the world did you protect your camera

equipment? Obviously one would need a water-proof bag and some way

to protect both the equipment and the horse while riding. Any help

would be welcome.

Craig,

If you want to keep your camera handy, you can make (or perhaps find for purchase) a chest strap that will hold the camera against your body, and take some of the weight off of your neck. This will keep it out and ready, but it won't be bouncing against you and beating you up.

Good luck on your trip!

.. . and let's not forget the comfort of the horse! Are you packing a tripod? there are bags for everything and any good outfitter will have an answer assuming you ask ahead. I agree with the chest strap rig for the camera. remember the old "Kuban Hitch?" tamarac makes a great, rugged rig based on the old idea. A "sling bag" for over-the-shoulder carry would work too. Some plastic garbage bags can be extra waterproofing.
