thomas_f.
I purchased a Digital Rebel today and can not get the computer to detect it in the USB port. I have installed drivers that came with the Ver.6.0 CD as well as the drivers listed on the Canon site. The camera & software work great on a friends computer running Windows XP. So I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issue and possibly found a solution. Thanks, Thomas
yogi_logy
I have the combination and there was no problem at all. I do remember that the USB cable came wrapped in a warning notice to install the software BEFORE connecting the camera to the computer with said cable. My computer is a P4 and I already have other Canon film scanner software installed previously, don't know if that had any effect on the camera installation. Good luck. xav
Look carefully at your user manual. There is a good chance you will find special instructions for software installation on Windows Me. I can find special instructions for installation on Windows Me for another Canon product (FS 4000 scanner).
paul_nicol
I had no problem with my 10D/ME but when I installed the same for my father's (10D/98) system I had the same problem. I went to directly to the appropriate folders on the install CD, and ran the individual installers. (the culprit was "camera window?? or File viewer?" can't remember for sure which one (or even the correct name) but by doing the individual installs I got the program to finally work. Hope this is of some use
christian_dupuis1
I installed the software on my TiBook; it ran for a day; the next time I tried it, I couldn't get the camera to get recognized by the laptop. Then, I tried installing it on my other three systems (a Windows 2000 IBM, a whitebox Athlon XP Windows XP Pro, and my G4 tower system; no luck on any of them. I tried a different camera cable (to rule out the possibility of a defective cable) and nada. I'll be dropping it to Canon to get fixed this week. When I purchased the Rebel D, my sales rep at Vistek told me some arrived with defective pixels on the LCD. Well, my LCD is fine, but the USB connection's a bust. I've been using an external Compact Flash reader to transfer the files, but I'd rather use the camera control software for some of the raw files I take... carl smith
And once all is said and done you should probably upgrade from Windows ME anyway.
steve_hovland
Some of these connections are touchy. Restarting the computer can help. Make notes of the sequence you use so you can replicate what works in the future.
john_bright
Just for the record! Ive never had any trouble with Windows ME with any camera, or anything else for that matter. I'll update if ever it becomes necessary.
thomas_f.
Wow... thanks for the quick replies! I was busy all day today taking pictures with our local car club. Downloaded the pictures through my friends XP... I'll be un-installing all the software and cleaning up my ME system this week and will then try to install everything again. I'm 100% certain that I followed the installation instructions to the letter... will post follow up in a few days. I personally do not like XP and will only upgrade to it if I have to. Thanks again for all the input, Thoams
george_shihanian
You don't like XP but will upgrade to it if you have to. The camera and software work great on a friend's computer running Windows XP. mmm... sounds like an argument to "have to" upgrade if you ask me. Seriously- I was running Win ME for almost 2 years and had the XP upgrade disk the whole time. I also thought I liked Win ME just fine. I just did the upgrade about a month ago and can say my computer (Dell) seems to run faster and better. No crashes, hang-ups, etc. If you still have problems with the inatall CD, just go to Canon's website and download the drivers from there. I had to do that for an Olympus digital printer. thomas_f.
Update.... As far as my ME system, I'm going to do a complete clean-up + fresh start of the system (I think I have too much junk (programs) that is interfearing with the canon drivers) to see if that cures my problem. As for my friends XP system... I took 265 pics with a 256MB card today. When it came time to hook up the camera to the XP PC, Canon Zoombrowser said that there is no data on the CF card.(?) I put the CF card in the printer and printed 4 page index of what's on the card. Guess I'm just prone to bad luck.... in the end I'm sure it will work out. Thanks again for all your help!
