Old Tri-X (135) & XTOL 1:1

Hi,

Can some one help me determine if Tri-X on the J-109

technical sheet at the Kodak website for XTOL is for the new

or the old Tri-X? I have rolls of both and I know that delevopment

times have changed for the new Tri-X. If it's for the new one

where can I find times for the old? Or vice-versa.

The box itself for the old does not include XTOL and on the new

boxes it only shows times for 1:0.

Thanks! :)

Development times for new Tri-X are changed in rumor only, AFAIK. So far I haven't heard any real world data to support a need for significant revisions to the previous times.

Considering the other errors on Kodak's site I'm skeptical of any of the new times suggested for their revised films.

I've processed the new Tri-X in Rodinal, Ilfosol-S and Diafine so far and see no difference between the results I got with the old version using the same times.

Thanks Andrew! I didn't know about that site. It kicks! :)

Lex: You're right. After perusing digitaltruth.com I found

that there is only a 15 sec difference in the development

guidelines for XTOL 1:1 (68º) with both Tri-X's at 400. So the

"new" formula for Tri-X does leave room for scepticism.

However, I did notice that PlusX is quite different. 7.5 min for the

old formula and 6.25 for the new utilizing XTOL. An important

note for myself there.

Thanks guys! :)

I cannot give you a definite answer on this, because I may have mixed up my Diafine and Microdol-X batches of Tri-X, but I finally developed some Tri-X in Microdol-X last weekend and the old Tri-X negatives came out far better for the development time that I selected than the new Tri-X that was batched with it. I cannot tell you this with absolute certainty, but that is my theory.
