dave b
I recently purchased an A-12 back from ebay. I put a couple rolls of film thru it this weekend to test it out. When I developed the film, i discovered that there is a small piece of what looks like film with the previous owner's copyright mark. The little piece of film puts his name on the non-image edge of the frame. Now that i think of it, WHAT A GREAT IDEA !! I figure maybe this is a common modification and thought first to contact the previous owner to find out where the work was done. (the back probably needs to have a little metal milled out to accomodate the "name" But i thought i might as well try here first. Any ideas? dave_lewis
Where on the non-image edge of the frame is it? Can you post an example?

scott_walton2
Some of us have done that for years and usually can be done by a qualified camera tech.
todd_phillips1
This modification was done by a company in the (I think) late '80's to certainly early '90's. It involved cutting away a slight portion of the magazine frame and inserting a Kodalith type mask that would imprint the copyright, date, and name. It was highly mentioned in Photo District News. I remember seeing their booth at the one and only Photo Expo Midwest. You were supposed to send them each back and they would put in a new date each year (so far as I can remember). Jay Maisel was quoted in the ads as saying "they've saved our asses!" (as far as I can remember). Anyway....the company has gone out of business! There are a lot of modified backs and bodies floating around out there! Just check before you buy! BTW...yes, it WAS a great idea! Just wonder why everybody didn't jump on the bandwagon (no, I didn't)?
