radu_liviu
I am going to take some pictures at the Pride Parade in San Francisco this week-end. I can choose between Fuji 160 NPS, Fuji 400 NPH, Fuji Astia, Fuji Sensia and Kodak Portra 160 to take people's picture (I have at least 0one of these films in my fridge). Which one would you use? minh_thai
What lenses are you shooting w/? For anything shorter than an 80mm I would go w/ 100asa (Astia would be my choice, but I like slides). For tele NPH would ensure high enough speed for handholding. One tip: bring more film than you think you need!
stephane camus
I agree the previous answer... If you shoot slides, go for the Astia 100 (low saturation, good for people photography) and if you want prints, then NPH 400 is a blast for skin tone, plus you have a 400iso film. I shot a climbing trip in a desert with NPH400 and I loved the results... I like the low saturation for Joshua Tree. Now, since many faces are painted and the parade is very colorful, I would try to shoot a little bit of Velvia... definitely not a people-photography film, but it could give interesting results. radu_liviu
I have a Canon 50mm/1.8 and a telephoto Canon 75-300. Thank you for your answers.
radu_liviu
I was also thinking of bringin a Velvia for the painted faces, but it might be riscky... I also have Kodak E100VS and Kodak E100GX. I am experimenting, trying to find the most suitable film for a specific situation...
rich815
Is there a specific reason you want to shoot slides? I love slide film and use it extensively but lately have found some of the color negative films to be better especially in such mid-day conditions as you'll get. Slide films, even Astia, may be have too limited an exposure latitude under what might be fairly contrasty conditions. I live here in SF and the weather has been bright and sunny lately and I believe is forecast for such this weekend too. I'd say NPH would be great but then again the painted colors, feathers, and general outrageousness of dress and such (or lack thereof) might be lost or compromised with NPH. Consider Kodak Gold 100. Contrary to it being a consumer film it has very good skin tones, good strong colors, fine grain and scans pretty well too. I also have been quite satisfied lately with Kodak Portra 400UC. Good skin tones like NPH but with nice strong colors. It also scans beautifully. Could be perfect for that parade. I pretty sure Gasser's has some in stock, if not Calumet would.
