michael_b._elmer
Anybody heard rumours about the new lens for Leica M to be presented later this month - and about a new lens for Leica R? Is it a M 4-Elmar 28-90? Or is that too wild a guess? Any guesses on a new R-lens? A 28-90 zoom?
roger_michel
my guess is that the next new M lenses will be: (1) wide tri-elmar, (2) tele-tri-elmar, (3) "slow" compact 75, and (4) 50 summilux asph at least those ar ethe most persistent rumors. hard to believe that leica sells enough units for them EVER to come out with any new lenses!! jay_.
My guess is that we'll see more lenses available in black paint; otherwise nothing really new until the next Photokina or PMA, since that is traditionally when Leica introduces brand-new products. Then I would expect a new Summilux-M based on the optical cell of the Summilux-R, since the 50 Lux is the oldest lens in the M stable and it would only cost them R&D to engineer an M mount for the Lux-R, the glass is already done. Robin Smith
Is the Tri-Elmar actually a success? I often wonder. A new 50mm 'lux seems like an obvious one to me as they have an R version. Robin Smith
steve_lehuray1
A little birdie has told me to look for M 24mm/2.0 and 21mm/2.

stephen_w.
Jay's response makes me think: why weren't the M/R lenses 50 up to 135 optically identical to each other, except macro, of course. It would seem to be a waste of money, otherwise. Why not produce an 75, 1.4R that is optcally the same as the M-'lux? Same with the 90, although, I heard these are identical. doug herr
why weren't the M/R lenses 50 up to 135 optically identical to each other
Some of them are, like the late 90mm Elmarit-R and the 135mm Elmarit-R. I see an advantage for the R system in faster lenses and 50mm lenses in that the R mount has a much wider throat than the M so that lenses can be optimized for a larger exit pupil. For the same reason I doubt the current 50mm Summilux-R can be adapted successfully to the M because of the smaller M mount diameter.
chip l.
The indication from the chat when they introduced the Digital R back was that the Tri Elmar is a successful lens, and that there may be other "Tri" lenses in the future....
kajabbi
For those who received " Yhe Lens Book" from leica, read the fine print on the "Billinghasm" coupon. Only good on lenses introduced BEFORE 9/01/2003. No doubt it will not be long before we are treated to something new AND expensive. My opinion :a new 50 MM Summilux. albert knapp md
50mm M 'lux sounds most logical.
gerald_widen
What I would like to see would be a remake, with the same optical forumla, of the Rigid/DR Summicron with modern coatings.
freusen
No new lenses, but a new Leica 1.4x APO Extender for M-Series Lenses!!!
