processing uprated C41 film

Hi there,

I've just finished a roll of Ilford XP2 that I uprated to 800. I've

previously asked the lab to uprate at the development stage, but I

was wondering if another option is to ask them to develop as normal

and to correct at the processing stage, and if so what the difference

between the two options would be in terms of the finished prints.

Anyone know ?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi-- Unless your subject lighting and contrast were quite flat, I'd suggest normal film development. I'd push-process only to boost negative contrast and highlight density for flat subjects, such as recording prehistoric petroglyphs for one example.

As Lex has earlier suggested, you can squeeze a good bit of detail out of shadows even at ISO 800. But push development will only boost contrast that could blow out highlights.
