Need info on Battery/Module for 540 Flash

The Quantum Bantam and QB1 (Battery 1) variants are all 6 volt batteries that will do very little more than a decent set of rechargable NiMH AA batteries, as far as recycle speed is concerend (5 seconds for full power recycles). If battery life is a problem, buy more NiMH AA's. They are far cheaper and lighter to pack. If you really want one, you would also need the XZ2 (Bantam) or MZ2 (Battry 1+) or either for the new Battery 1c. Either way, it fits inside the battery compartment and completely displaces the AA's

The Turbo variants put out over 300 volts and recycle the 540EZ in less than 1.5 seconds after a full power shot. Most of the time in TTL mode there is no wait at all. You need the CZ power cord adapter to plugg into the high voltage port on the left side of the flash foot. With this cord & battery you still need the AA batteries installed to handle the flash controls.

The high voltage Turbo series is the only one to consider as the 6 volt versions don't offer any real improvement over just using good rechargable AA batteries.

The QB's are for powering the body not the flash. You will have to use the Turbos or other brand's versions. Personally, I'm looking at Canons' TP-E pack. It uses AA bateries (rechargeables are quick but die fast) and is around $120 at B&H. I have been able to shoot most things using just the flash's batteries but at some point it starts to get slow. The extra juice would come in handy but I don't need to lug a Turbo around.
