1.
I know it shouldn't effect the result but have you tried this test with different lenses ?

 2.
Well you could always adapt a Leitz Visoflex to your u4/3 body ! This will give you an optical viewfinder in addition to the electronic VF.

 3.
Dunno about the XE-1 but my Olympus E-M5 has a "Level Adjust" option in the menus. Basically you set the camera up as you did with the carpenter's level and calibrate the internal level of the camera.

 4.
Thomas was asking about the MIRROR not the SCREEN !
Anyhow, I'd be asking how the mirror broke. I've had OMs since 1974 and never had a broken mirror. The broken mirror might be the obvious sign of damage but there is a possibility that other parts of the mechanism are also damaged and maybe optically misaligned. If you really want a reliable OM-2N to use buy a good one, they sell for bargain prices these days.

 5.
...plus OM-4(T(i)), OM-3(Ti).
To connect the Grip 2 to an OM-2 & get TTL Auto you need a T-cord+TTL Auto connector type 3.
To connect the Grip 2 to an OM-2N & get TTL Auto you need a T-cord+TTL Auto connector type 4.
To connect the Grip 2 to an OM-4(T(i)) or OM-3(Ti) you need a T-cord.
For OM-1(N) you can't have TTL so you just use the PC cord in the base of the Grip 2.
For any camera you can also use the PC cord and manual exposure or get non-TTL auto (using the sensor in the flash).
...Wayne

 6.
Also keep in mind that the infinity stop on these lenses may to be accurate enough with the lens wide open even before you add that adapter. You can't rely on just using the focussing scale when the lens is wide open.

 7.
I think you've just turned on the selftimer ! Small lever that goes around the top of the flashing LED, if you turn it to the top that will turn off the selftimer.
...Wayne

 8.
Check here: http://www.vanveluwen.nl/eSIF/ click through OM System --> Flash Photo Group --> T32.

...Wayne

 9.
The failure in this case is probably unrelated to how much you have used the camera (shutter operations), this behaviour is typical for electronic devices unlike mechanical devices. I'd try pressing Oly to repair it at their cost even though it's probably outside the warranty period.
