  1. A somewhat late reply to a question that I asked myself recently. The GR-E2 is functionally and electrically interchangeable with the GR-E1 grip. It differs from the E1 by enclosing the battery behind a door that offers better water protection. Note that there are two versions of the GR-E1 grip. The first (and oldest) was released with the EOS 1 and is designed so the battery just slides into position. This is the grip that's illustrated in the EOS 1 user manual I have. The second version of the GR-E1 has a grey plastic rotating piece that the battery slides into, which makes removing the battery a bit easier. It's the same mechanism that used on the BP-E1 battery pack. I'm not sure when the second version of the GR-E1 was released, but it's pictured in the EOS 1N user manual, and going by the pictures in the EOS 3 manual it appears to be the grip that it was supplied with. The GR-E2 is pictured below, it was introduced with the EOS 1V. Note that a hinged door covers the battery space, and the grey plastic battery locating piece on the top is absent. All three of these grips are interchangeable. eBay sellers usually don't differentiate between the E1 and E2 versions, all of these were listed as GR-E1 grips.
  2. Greetings from the future! Some 15 years after the last post I'm pleased to say that T90s are now showing up cheaply on auctions sites "for parts or repair" with little more than loose lens mounts. Also, some otherwise fine examples are being sold "as-is" because they have had a PC socket fitted to the left side of the pentaprism; this was an after-sale Canon factory modification (other repairers did it as well I believe) which is uncommon enough to be a surprise to modern sellers. Lastly, the correct tools to use for Japanese cameras are JIS screw drivers. Philip head drivers fit but are by-design tapered so they cam out of the head under load. JIS drivers are straight/parallel and don't cam out of JIS screw heads. You'll find that Philip head drivers result in damage to the JIS head when pressure is applied.
  3. Thank you for taking the time to reply. The EOS 620 (and 650) don't have custom functions, they were first introduced in the EOS 630. I took the lid off an EOS 620 and it didn't have solder pads in the same place the T90 does to enable the leader-out option. Oh well. While you're here, I've been reading you many posts on the old EOS film cameras nd enjoyed them. It has prompted me to buy a couple (cough) of EOS film cameras since they are so cheap, unlike their older FD manual focus siblings. It's interesting that most of the film-related posts were made at least a decade ago, sometimes two. Most are too old to add to now: some things are better left undisturbed IMHO. When I do post I often begin with "Greetings from the future..." Regards, Vaughan
  4. Hello I recently purchased some service manuals for EOS 650, 620 and 630. One of them mentions that the EOS 620 can be modified to leave the film leader out... but doesn't describe the modification. The T90 could be modified to leave the leader out with a simple solder bridge under the top cover (err simple once you got the top cover off). I'm hoping the mod for the 620 is something similar. Does anybody know that the EOS 620 film leader modification is? Thanks.
  5. Off the original topic, but THANKS for posting the pics of the EOS 630 in both black and metallic grey! From what I can find, the EOS 600 was only available in metallic grey. Your pic confirms the EOS 630 was available in both colour options. (BTW it was the first EOS camera to be available in multiple colours.)
