  1. I'm tempted to buy this but I'm afraid they might announce the mark V soon. ;) But seriously, dual pixel raw is a bit vague in the description. Presumably some sort of sharpening control and probably a feature that only Canon's software can adjust in post processing. I'd like to see samples of what it can do.
  2. Define "crapped up". I use Canon equipment myself and Nikon equipment at work. I don't see a difference in build quality that would make one better than the other. Also, you'd be paying a premium for unused technology using the Nikon flash on the Canon body. Perhaps a Metz or Sunpak handle mount flash might serve your needs. I used a Sunpak 622 for many years for rapid fire continuous use in skateboarding photos. Took many knocks and never failed. Also you have the option of dedicated modules to match your camera's flash feature set or just keep it simple with manual or auto flash mode. I read lots of reviews about Yongnuo, Lumapro, and other Chinese products that amount to OK build quality at dirt cheap prices and "I'll just buy another WHEN it breaks" attitudes. This seems silly to me like old school disposable flash cubes. Your camera is the best of the best (1DX), why not get a robust, serviceable, professional flash for your work?
  3. Isn't there a comparable Sony/Minolta lens available for your camera? The EF 24-105L is a good lens price to performance wise but that is mostly due to the IS which you won't even use.
  4. Everyone who is suggesting just use a card reader, may I remind you of a process called tethered shooting in the studio.
  5. There are no short cuts in life, bite the bullet and get the right tool for the job (used and previous generation models work just as well). One issue to consider with the 5Ds used with a 200 mm lens is the size of your AF points and coverage vs. the subject magnification in the viewfinder. Another issue would be a sacrifice in frame rate which is a big deal in sports photography.
  6. Fantastic, thanks for posting those. I am very impressed with the noise level. Shooting indoor basketball and night football with the original 7D left me very disappointed at 3200 & 6400 ISO. This camera shows some promise in that respect. May I ask what you use for noise reduction? And are you shooting jpegs?
  7. Can you post some sample images? Perhaps of the same or similar venue with the old and new camera? I have too many shots of sharp splashes in front of faces using a 7D and 5D mark II shooting swimmers head on and from the side. Can you talk about AF improvements in this regard? (Although, I understand it may be the nature of the beast)

  9. Perhaps f/3.8 is actually a quarter stop and not able to be displayed. My camera shows intermediate third stop apertures as ...2.8, 3.2, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.6... Maybe you still receive the extra light gathering ability though. My EF 100 f/2.0 yields an image about 1/2 stops brighter wide open than my EF 200 f/2.8 shot at equivalent EV readings.
