I suspect these 'members' are pretty much 'fly-by-night' - they 'join' using bizarre names in many cases, spatter spam around, then are never seen again.

For those unfamiliar with this, here is a brief overview of the reporting procedure : Reporting SPAM If you see a thread with a title such as '[tere bs ka nahi hai copy pest insan] McAfee Contact Number UK' it is almost invariably SPAM. I deal with it thuswise : 1) Open the offending item 2) Click on the three dots - this will give a choice of options. Select 'Report' 3) When the Report post' menu opens, from the five choices select 'Spam', then 'Submit Report'. Enter a message if you wish, remembering this goes to the Mods, not the Spam originator. 'Thank you for your report' will be displayed briefly at the top of the screen. Job jobbed - continue to the next offending item

Not seen any, and am quite content not to do so. The spam which I am reporting tends to be in the General Photography Discussion area, and is easily distinguished by its total lack of relevance to the forum in which it is posted, and the bizarre conglomeration of characters masquerading as the poster's identity.

ER - no. That was the purpose of the new drive !

I purchased a new 2 TB drive for backups. I decided to format it prior to using it. I selected the wrong disk. I formatted my data drive. I am now running recovery software. I am an idiot.

I must say that reporting SPAM reminds me very much of the game Splat-a-Rat, as played at Garden Parties throughout Britain during the warm summer months. No prizes, but works off aggression beautifully !

Reporting it is a way of passing the time while waiting for eBay bids to either win or disappoint me ! 😁 My main gripe is the atrocious English being employed.

I'm chopping them as I find them - does reporting them actually assist the Mods at all, does anyone know, please ?

Thank you for the 'explanation', but the rules are clear for all to read. No-one was accusing you of wasting (I think you mean) time on Social Media - it was a comparison between acceptable behaviour on this site and that on Social Media. And, when all is said and done - you did break the published rules.

The OP seems to have solved the problem. Hope he/she stops shouting.

Most of it seems to turn up in the Discussion forums, usually posted by a name I don't recognize, which acts as an indicator of unusual activity. Rick says it's also in the member galleries, which I do not visit.

The Mods seem to be doing a great job fighting back. 😁
