1.
It did work.
Gaffer tape was too thick and I used some normal sellotape. This is not great, obviously and I'm definitely going to go for that film solution that Lex points.
I managed to sync the LX5 to 1/4000th and outgun the the sun ("Outgun the Sun" a record album name?) and can't wait to play with this.
Maybe I'll get some generic Yongnuo thing for this as I save up for an SB-800.
The other issue is that the flash vastly outweighs the camera....

 2.
Hi there,
I have a Nikon dedicated t/l flash (a Jessops 360AFDN, which is the same same thing as a TUMAX DPT 386 AFZ) which works fine on the hot shoe of my Nikon D5300 (and previous Nikon Cameras for that matter.)
I have been trying to use it manually on a Panny Lumix LX-5 but it won't even fire. It DOES FIRE when I am pulling the flash of the LX-5's hotshot (when both are on.)
Is this normal?
I also note that it does not seem to fire if I attach a trigger cable between the the D5300 and the Flash.

Any leads?

Cheers,

T
