I have a question about when to charge the LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries. Basically I've just come back from a short trip with my 6D and the Battery Info is showing 51%. Having got home and downloaded images into Lightroom, etc, I was all ready to pop the battery out and charge it back to 100% when I wondered - would it actually be better to leave it in the camera for the next time and exhaust it? (I have spares.)

So I read the manual (actually, a 7DII manual) and was quite surprised by what I found on page 39:
a) "Recharge the battery on the day before or on the day it is to be used. Even during storage a charged batter will gradually drain and lose its capacity."
b) "When not using the camera, remove the battery..... Storing the battery when it is fully charged may lower the battery's performance."

Neither of these actually answered my question - is it best to fully exhaust a battery before charging it - but opened up a couple of other issues. I have to say that my practice for a long time has been to charge my batteries immediately on return from a trip and then leave them in the cameras. I might, if I remember, try to rotate them around so that there isn't a permanent 'spare' - that they all get time as a main battery. Finally, I ought to say that these are all genuine Canon batteries - 1 x LP-E6 and 1 x LP-E6N that came with cameras, and a second LP-E6N that I bought from the same dealer at the same time as the most recent camera.

What are other peoples' practices in this regard?
