  1. Hi, The copyright is shared and is not an issue. I am in the U.S. I am thinking of licensing for 1-3 years and pin down their specific, non-commercial usage needs. Any idea what the range is on this? Fotoquote states licensing for one image in the "Quote Pack" for all internal use is $4212.
  2. Hi, I have shared copyright and the very nice newspaper editor contacted me to let me know that they often give first dibs to the photographer to license images. So all good. Other photographers also have done this so it is not an issue.
  3. Hi, I took a portrait of a CEO for a newspaper and the CEO’s assistant wants to license three of the images from that assignment. I use Fotoquote 7 for stock requests but the assistant said they “don’t have an intended use” and wouldn’t use it for commercial purposes and that if they got a request from a 3rd party "they would have to get your permission.” I emailed the assistant asking him to clarify the scope of their “intended use” and he replied by asking if he could just "buy the photos" I have read about telling the prospective client that you are paying for stuff you necessarily do not need similar to this: The PRO-Files: When Should You Grant A Copyright Buyout? Have you had similar stock requests and what is the best strategy in handling/pricing out these requests for a licensing period of 1-2 years? Since I am not clear what they will use it for (apart from non-commercial) what would you do? Should I quote a ridiculous amount eg. $20k per image to pursuade him not to ask for buyout? Or should I continue to steer him for certain rights? The guy is not familiar with usage rights. Thanks.
  4. Hi, I have a short time to photograph anywhere from 40-130 people who will be lined up at an event. Some photos will be of couples and others of singles. The event host wants the names/addresses of the people to send them prints. What is a failsafe method of properly identifying the guests? I was thinking of having each group/individual hold up a pre-printed letter paper with numbers 1-150 printed in large, bold text. once they have their photo taken they go to an assistant with clipboard to write their address down. I am thinking of handing guests the numbered sheets as they stand in line so they can write their address down on the sheet with the numbers on it. Any suggestions would be welcome. I have about 30min-1 hour to photograph as many people as I can so a streamlined fail safe system suggestion would be really appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Thanks, John G. The tests and information on your blog are a gold mine. I have learnt a lot about from studying your posts. Keep up the amazing work.
  6. I have the Profoto 3 foot RFI, the 39" elinchrom octa, and the 69" octa. I don't get to use the 69" as much as I would like to for location work due to space but had the chance last week to do some outdoor group and individual portaits and the 69" was spectacular. I had a group of 6-9 young people and really liked the crisp/soft light with the front diffuser off? I was using Profoto B1 with dome and I imagine the light would maybe be better spread over 69" with older Profoto bulb heads. Still very amazing light. Much prefer the 39" elinchrom over the Profoto 3". Also, I HATE the Profoto RFI rod system compared to Elinchrom speedring. I leave the speedrings on the Elinchrom octas and just snap the thing together quickly. With Profoto, the loose rods often come off the ends of the softbox and I have to remove the baffle to push the rod back in place. I might gaffer tape the rods into the fabric so they don't come off easily. I have the 1x3 foot RFI and have issue with that too.
  7. Hi, I have Profoto B1 & B2 with many Profoto and Elinchrom modifiers. While I love the reliabilty and support behind the Profoto gear I find it limiting to have to buy two sets of lights if I want to use AC. I want to get another B1 but also want the ability to use the modelling light on extended studio sessions and this really requires an AC plug. I looked at Profoto B1x/D2 and like the new features but wish Profoto would do what Godox has done for 1/3 the price: add an AC adaptor to the B1x. Has anyone sold off their Profoto gear and bought Godox? How was the transition? Have any of you bought 2-3 Godox AD600 to supplement your Profoto gear. The Godox system(removable head, ac/battery options, doubling head to 1200w/s, $50 controller that controls multiple lights) really provides the solution I am looking for. Are any of you using both systems together by stacking the Profoto air remote control on the Godox X1T-N wireless flash trigger? I am looking at the Bowens mount AD600 and wanted to know how well the Bowens-Elinchrom adaptor works on 69" and 39" Octa? Is there anyway to use Godox AD200 on the profoto Magnum or beauty dish? And if you cant, what does Godox/Bowens have that is similiar to Magnum or Profoto BD? Magnum is one of my favorite modifiers. Thanks.
  8. Profoto rep stated the first 4 digits do not reflect manufacture and expiration date. however, the dead battery that came with the b2 i bought in 2015 has a 1416 date and the new battery i just bought has a 1518 date. The battery stamped 1416 died early 2017 or late 2016. I am not sure of the exact date as i had not been using the b2 for several months when i discovered it would not power the b2. if the new battery stamped 1518 dies next year i will be very upset. i probably recharged the old b2 battery 100-150 times before it died. Can anyone here look at their serial and verify if the first 4 digits correspond roughly to the year of purchase.
  9. Hi, I ordered a new Profoto B2 battery from Unique photo and upon opening the battery noticed the plastic wrapping the battery was ripped open by the charging port. http://imgur.com/a/oCZlt I purchased spare B2 batteries about 16 months ago and cannot remember seeing the packaging ripped open like this. I also see some scratches on the battery terminal. The battery has one bar available. The battery serial number sticker(white sticker on battery with 10-digit number) also starts with 15 which indicates the battery was made in 2015. Someone also hand wrote a different 7-serial number written on the side of the box that does not match the serial number stamped on the battery. I am surprised this company is keeping such old stock. Have you recently bought any B2 battery with the serial starting with 15? I know batteries have a limited shelf life and for the price these are going for I want a new battery. Thoughts?
