1. I am glad you explained that the picture of Patton was printed arse about face. I had noticed that his shirt had the buttons on the wrong side, that is to say the women's side. The photo could have started rumours distressing to a man as butch as Patton. Stuart
 2. "The Brits wanted revenge for Dunkirk- thus Montgomery with the backing of the crown and Churchill wanted to be the first into Berlin." That is a very naive opinion. The British had more serious concerns than revenge for Dunkirk. I have never ever heard any of that generation express such a view. To suggest that Montgomery needed 'the backing of the crown' is ridiculous. King George was a constitutional monarch who did an immense amount for morale but was not responsible for the conduct of the war. Churchill was well aware of the danger of the Soviet Union swallowing as much of Europe as they could. It is a pity that his influence was waning at that time. Stuart
 3.
Test the speed of an electric fan. Use the sort of tachometer that is for testing speed of lathes and mills. Remove the guard of the fan and spray the blades matt black. Paint a clear white line on one of the blades. Take a photograph at each speed. The white line will appear as a blur covering a larger sector at lower shutter speeds. For a 1200rpm fan, for example, 1/125 would be 57.6 degrees. I realise that it is yesterday's technology, but I use yesterday's cameras.

 4.
May I revive this thread? I have just bought a Pilot 6 with shutter problems. The shutter did not work at first, but after the customary working it repeatedly, it worked perfectly for a few minutes. Then, sadly, it seemed that the second shutter was closing by immediately following the mirror/shutter. That is to say, it effectively did not open at all or it opened instantaneously and for a very short time. The photographs are wonderfully helpful and I am confident that I can repair the camera once I get the side panel off. What I am not clear about is how the shutter speed knob and the shutter release knob are removed. If I were making the mechanism, I would make it so that the release knob unscrewed conventionally in an anti-clockwise direction and the speed knob unscrewed similarly once it was lifted. Is that correct?
