1.
another vote for my tamron 7-200 w/ VC used on my d7100.
Does great indoors sports for poor lit high school gyms.
Works even better in college gyms!

I read tons of reviews and for the majority of us, the lens is right up there with the nikon vrII, and about $1,000 less!
No focus issues, pic quality is very good, and build quality is great too, image stabilization seems to work w/o issue too.

 2.
Thanks again guys for everything. I think I pretty much have it figured out!
Few Questions now:
......now on tracking. Does the 9/21pt work on only on on axis. Say left & right to the original focal point or will it work if the original focal point moves towards or away from camera? AF-C
I assume the 3D will work on both axis's?
For landscape pic? Does single point or multi point like 21 or 51 make more sense given a lot of detail you'd want in focus? Or would not matter as the camera will still focus on same point (box) yet nothing would move to re focus?

 3.
I think I get single point focus and say f/3.5.....Will focus on what is "in" the box and shallow depth of field. Aperture Priority
However say you have 9pt or 21pt/51pt, f/3.5, & Aperture Prioroty...
you pick a small object like a bird he makes up most of the center point, but say a fence rail or tree or even another bird or something is (next to him in frame) but like 15 (feet) behind him.
-Does the camera "decide" where to focus based on what it sees in the 9 points?
-Does the camera average the focal point between what all it sees in the 9 points especially since f/3.5 won't have both birds in focus as they are so far away.
-Or what exactly does it do....
Thanks,

 4.
Thanks for the responses. I plan to get the a 1 aw,

Not sure if i should get the 12mm f/2.8 for the underwater and AW capabilities OR the other kit lens 11-27 f3.6-5.6. The 2.8 would probably be nice under water for the lower light as well as maybe indoors.
I would be ok with the regular 1 series lenses used outdoors off the beach areas etc. As they are a bit cheaper Than the fx lenses and D7100 body and if one did go bad, i would feel a bit better losing one.
DO you know which of the Nikon 1 lenses are their top performers? Can't seem to find many testes on the 1 series.

Plan to have a:
-Low light 10mm F/2.8 AW
-Zoom that doesn't need to be AW for off the beach and around the way:
10-100 f/4.0-5.6 VR ~$550 OR
10-100 f/4.5-5.6 PD VR $750??

 5.
I don't feel comfy with my d7100 and lens to be around the ocean. after seeing how much "spray" comes off the ocean and all even when inland a bit. Plus the sand and water and what not... Would plan to use the kit lens 11-27.5 f/3.5-5.6 most of the time outdoors around beach.
I have used the simple aw 100 around the ocean and pool in past and love it, just not real great pics. But good and good video.
Anyway...Dominican and Hawaii coming up and thinking of getting the nikon 1 aw. Plus i like that any of my regular nikon lenses can mount on here if needed for super extended reach :-)
Currently Have:
-tamron 70-200/f2.8 VC indoor sports
-nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6 vr outdoor sports and travel
-nikon 18-140 f3.5-5.6 vr everyday do most stuff

So i like that the nikon 1 has f2.8 and f1.8 lens options for pretty cheap to fill my missing gap for indoor shooting when the 70-200 is to long. (looked at 24-70 f/2.8) Plus it would be a small companion and easy to whip out. Plus don't have to spend more money on another DSLR body and bulk to carry. So the nikon 1 aw can serve double duty....
BUT are the image quality up to par (or close) with the nikkor 1 lenses....
I am just a dad with a family and trips to photo that loves the hobby!

 6.
Perfect! Makes sense now
Thanks again

 7.
Shun, you kind of lost me.
Are you saying don't worry about the sweet spot aperture. Just go with what works for the situation. So maybe more like f/5.6 with this lens.
Thanks again Michael, great pic too!

 8.
The camera is automatically adjusting shutter speed. I figure best to put the aperture in a sweet spot for this lens as well since i get plenty of shutter speed to freeze the action.... Which I believe if ~f/8?

Right thought??

 9.
Thanks,
I have played around, just not sure if it would be better to go with a larger aperture or if spot focus is better or if 51 point and say f11 would be better for clearer shots.

Plus wanted to be sure I wasn't making an obvious mistake to those more experienced!

 10.
Given equipment: --Nikon d7100 & AFS 70-300 VR
Given Outdoor usually sunny:
Given soccer or football:

I usually set to aperture priority of like 8.
I usually set ISO to about 200
Shutter usually ends up around 1/1200 or faster, so plenty there
AF continuous and I usually pick the 9 point
I use the weighted center metering
WB set to direct sunlight.

Should i adjust something or would you say looks good?
Thanks,

 11.
Anyone know of a decent (free preferably) prgram where I can take a few photo's and put them into one.

I am not looking for anything special:

Say I have four pics of my daughter from a copetition and just want to have a single print of 4 pics 2 row & 2 columns...etc...

Or if I wanted to do 5. 2 x2 and one in the middle.

Make sense??
