1. I've been thinking of traveling to France, and I've heard that they have banned a lot of photography in public? What is the latest of their photography restrictions?
 2.
Lil, I don’t specialize in any particular genre of photos - I grab what I can, when I can. Sometimes they might be considered snapshots, but I keep a camera with me at all times, just so I don’t miss an opportunity. If I am going out to shoot, I bring my primary kit & tripod. At all times, I have my older DSLR & 2 lenses in my car. And when I’m, not in my car, I have my cell phone (camera of last resort - and it doesn’t attract a lot of attention). During the past couple of weeks, I have posted images to FB from all three, and nobody has spotted the difference. The point is this - don’t sit around and wish.

 3.
Lil, I'm sorry to hear this - your photos are great. I miss seeing them. Your situation is not unique. We all go through this. I have been in photo groups, too, that just withered and died. Some members of such groups are passionate about their interest, while others have only a passing interest. I have gone through similar things during the past few years. My daughter’s family moved back to New Orleans, I had to sue my home builder over structural problems, my mother, mother-in-law and sister passed away, and now we have moved - all of this saps your time and concentration. But, I try to stay connected with my international friends on FB. Just go out and shoot, and keep in touch with your friends who still have interest. Society has to improve in a couple of years.

 4.
No foolproof solution. The library of Congress makes back-ups of digital made movies onto film for archive purposes. Just saying. I'm not suggesting this for all of your files.

 5.
In most places, I think it would be more than rain that would get such a camera if left out over night.

 6.
Another alternative is a free, open source RAW/photo editor called LightZone. It is the best I've seen of the free applications, although it is missing some of the things that you find in other apps that you pay for. It has an extensive list of cameras that it supports. I've tried it, and have it on my computer, but I still do my editing in Photoshop CS5. Yes. it's free, and worth the price.

 7.
I still do some sharpening, but maybe not as much as with my D200. I find that the better the lens that I am using, the less sharpening I need. Overall, some sharpening seems to help in most cases, but usually the issue is not with the sensor filter, but with operator problems (I’m still working on that).

 9.
I agree with Wouter on this. However, I will add that when using Capture NX D, if you convert to jpeg and opt to set the output to smaller size in pixels, smaller dpi, the result is a terrible jpeg file. I would still use another program to do this. Converting to tif does a good job.

 10.
Just a quick test, NXD does seem to be a little smoother and faster than the Beta version I tested a few months ago, however one thing that I noticed is that converting the edited RAW file to a jpg, changing the dpi and size (in pixels) produces the worst jpg that I have ever seen. NXD cannot be used without finishing in another program, such as Photoshop.

 11.
Never mind. (Thanks Adriano) I thought that it installed, but it didn't, and what I found on my computer was NX 2 (which I never used). Now, I can play with it, to see if this is something I really want.

 12.
I just downloaded Nikon NX D ver 1.0.0 (or so I thought), but what got installed is NX 2 V 2.7.4 (64 bit). I don't know why it says NX 2, and I see that as a raw editor, there are are hardly any editing controls for either the RAW files or one converted to TIF. Is there something that I'm missing? It looks to me that I didn't get much for the time I invested on download and installation.
