I think a bloody handprint or smearing would have been an awesome addition! Well done.
  2. I like the intensity and contrast of this photo. I wonder, though, if the blown out highlights of the metal can be recovered and the eyes in shadow pulled up just a bit? It is a bizarre image, for sure. Looks like pretty low noise for a 7D.

    Blue

Stan, thanks for the additional detail. I hadn't tried stacking images to reduce the hard edge in places. That's a smart approach. I used white paper and pushed up the lights while reducing the shadows. The result is more abstract but I think with the right design it could be quite interesting. Sam

    Blue

Stan, I like your image a lot. I am exploring the same technique so I know how difficult it can be to get a pleasing composition and effect. I posted an image a week ago but chose to go high key. Your blue treatment is uniquely different than my path. (I shoot with a 7D and struggle with color noise with this set up so I stayed away from deep colors). I like the way you angled the image and you got a good mix of hard and soft edges. Sam

I see some haloing on the person so possibly it is oversharpened. I would like the crop if the person was not present, but suggest cropping in and creating a portrait image to make the person less of a smudge and a larger part of the image.
  6. How did this image avoid the usual scrutiny of POW? It seems to have become visible after the week it was to be POW. Is it possible that it was made private during that week and then made public after the POW period? I don't recall seeing it and it would be rare that no one would comment on it. Thoughts?
  7. Showing off the awesome low light performance of the a7rii, for sure! Grat capture.

    Julie H: (1) I assumed she was wearing sneakers for a reason; (2) + (3) I stand corrected. Sam

She seems frustrated because (1) she just missed the train, (2) she chickened out and didn't jump, or (3) she just wanted to be alone but the creepy guy with the camera kept following her.
  10. Leslie, this is a definite favorite. I know you are working on technique with the water images, but this one is fine art. Keep doing this type of work. It's clearly not in the mainstream and not derivative like so much of the images on the site.
  11. Leslie, very zenlike. The muted tones and shapes work really well together. Sam
  12. I almost passed over this one because you really need to look at it large to appreciate it. It is a really interesting image. Well done!
  13. Leslie, after you responded to my post on this topic, I looked for your photos on the critique forum but couldn't find them. Conversely, mine showed up immediately. I used Safari on my Mac and just followed your instructions using the critique button on the panel on the left hand side of the screen. I also note that since the migration to the new site, views and comments are way, way down. In the old days, I could count on feedback by the next morning. I have yet to receive a comment on a photo other than my own. Sam
  14. Very graphic. The bold orange goes well with the blue water and the dog is well placed. Very nice image.
  15. This works! Thanks. I suppose this makes sense...
