I only got the body off eBay, so I've been using the old Tokina at-x 28-85mm lens that my dad gave me. Been taking the opportunity to learn manual.

I hear you, I managed to get mine off ebay for about $60 including the shipping. Super lucky on that one I feel.

It's my first actual DSLR, so I was wondering if you guys had any advice about it. Does it have any quirks i should know about? Any recommendations at what it's best at? That kinda stuff. Other then that I'm just planning on using it as my all-rounder camera and get one or 2 more lenses for it as my funds dictate (still need an actual cpu lens <_<;).

Yeah I've just been outta the loop for awhile, so I was a bit fuzzy of what to do. -

... where should I post? Also is it okay to link my Instagram for that purpose? -

Wouter; Actually the Nikon does have a lens as well. I just assumed it came with the camera normally so I didn't list it. If your curious it's an Tokina at-x 28-85mm lens. Looking at it closer it also has an Optex 62mm UV Filter, not sure if it's normally attached that way or not. So my Nikon has that plus the teleconverter.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, still need to learning and all that.

David; Thanks! While I did forget to mention I got some bags too, I'm still going to look into that site as I need I bag thats easier to carry around then what I currently have.

Karim; Just checked and it's a Micador x2 tele converter with extention tube. And thank you for the advice, thats something I'm really trying to nail down mentally. I'm haven't done something new like this for a long time, so I'm constantly reminding myself that I'm not going to be good right away, and that it'll take me awhile to get to that point.

So I just started photography last month, and while taking pictures with what I have in the meantime I've been gathering cheap/given to me equipment from family and friends. Personally I think that I have a decent amount of stuff now to finally start practicing at the pace I'd be comfortable with. But I was wondering if as a beginner, I was missing anything that I don't realize I SHOULD have.
So here's basic list of what I do have for photography;
-Nikon FG with a x2 zoom lens attachment and flash attachment my dad gave me
-Tripod
-Better Photo Basics by Jim Miotke
-Canon PIXMA MG5720 printer I got to start printing photos
-Fijifilm Finepix s6000fd camera I bought cheap from a friend
-My new Nexus 6P phone for those emergency point and shoot situations
-And miscellaneous stuff like batteries, photo paper and film etc.

I'm reasonably sure I have my beginner basics covered, but if you have any advice or recommendations on something I could be missing I wouldn't mind the advice. Thanks in advance!

So I just started photography last month, so I've been slowly gathering cheap or given to me equipment to get started. One of my buddies gave me his old Fujifilm Finepix s6000fd camera, as he doesn't do photography anymore as he's more of an painter now (he does album covers and whatnot). Between that, the Nikon FG my dad gave me, and my new phone (for those emergency point and shoot situations), I'm personally satisfied that I have my beginner bases covered.

But I am curious if you guys would consider the s6000fd a decent starter camera. Any pros and cons I should worry about? Tips/tricks with it that I can't discover from simply googling? Any info would be awesome, I'm going to be trying it out in the meantime.
