1.
Thank you Robin. I found that on page 484 as you stated. Apologies. I am still amazed at how many pages manuals are now a days. So I actually started at the bottom of the pdf and worked upwards.

 2.
Hi,

If I knew how to post a photo here, I have a screen print of the manual. It states "for three consecutive shots"
I couldn't find any other reference within the manual unlike the 80D which tells you to choose between, 3, 5 or 7 shots. So if only 3, I don't know if I should be happy or concerned about the DR. The 80D has decent DR and it offered 7 shots, also the mkiii did as well.
Anybody else find something in the IV manual that is different to what I found?

 3.
I downloaded the manual and the AEB only allows 3 shots, although each can be up to 3 stops apart.
Should I say ..... hey, that must mean greater DR or should I be a little suspicious? I watched the big webinar type event at B&H and no where did anybody mention improved DR. They just repeatedly mention expanded usable ISO, but not DR.

 4.
Looking for some summer locations where I could capture shore birds, Herons, Egrets, etc. I am vacationing just north of Wellfleet so I want to limit my area from Orleans up to Provincetown. I will have a effective focal length lens of up to 640mm (400 x 1.6 Canon crop) Appreciate the input.

 5.
Well, final analysis is that BOTH the lens and 7D needed to be repaired. One under warranty and one not!

 6.
Great advice. I'll chase down some cars going by and test each settings combo.

Thanks to all for your input!

 7.
Joseph, thank you. That was my take as well and used mode II IS most of the time. I got so discouraged that I turned off IS and just tested the focusing system using stationary objects. They were focusing fine. Than I switched back to both IS modes when the runners made their return to the finish line. Both modes returned disappointing results.
Perhaps it is IS paired with AIServo that makes them fight each other. The 7D and the lens rock in "One Shot" mode. As sharp of photos that anyone could expect. IS I mode works fine in that regard.

 8.
I am sorry. I am experienced at this, so my shutter speeds were at 1/1600 or faster. Hence why I really didn't mention it. Sorry for the omission.
This I believe is me not using the IS properly I believe. I previously never used IS in shooting any kind of fast motion subjects. Should I stick with that approach?

 9.
I have shot a lot of sports photography with this body and lens combo. Mostly with IS turned off.
However, I tried shooting a road race this weekend using IS in both the 1 and 2 positions. I had very mixed results. I was in high speed frame rate using AI Servo. I had a lot of misses in terms of focus under both IS scenarios also varying between the many different focusing settings (i.e. center point, center point expanded, 9 point, etc.)
Now I embark on one of my favorite endeavors this weekend, photographing whales from a rocking ship. Based upon my disaster using IS in photographing runners, I am lost on how I should be shooting these relatively slow moving mammals. Perhaps a fast breach or two, but they move relatively slowly when on top of the ocean.
Am I better off with no IS and a fast shutter speed?
