10 Good
  1. I also like XP2 on overcast but bright afternoons (i.e. boring light). The whites never seem to have grain in the sky with xp2, which annoys me sometimes with tri-x. But maybe I am just imagining things.
  2. There is no theoretical reason why it would want to do this. Its all just practical. I have loads of BW chemical and can process fast for tens of cents while c41 at the lab is 7 dollars develop only (Canadian). The reason I don't like black and white home processing is the constant struggle with water spots and dust. If I could do XP2 at home in cheap black and white chemical (which the link in my original post shows is completely possible) AND use digital ICE to remove dust and water spots after, that would have been amazing. XP2 is my favorite black and white film for this reason, I can scan easily at home with crystal clean results. Traditional black and white can't be done at my local lab and when I do traditional black and white at home I get spots...although I am improving. But sounds like its a no. Thanks everyone for chiming in. I should take a shot at c41 at home. I think its time.
  3. Just wanted to drop this here. I have finally got around to trying Negative Lab Pro in the trial version a bit more in-depth, and so far so good. No digital ICE obviously for color or XP2 compared to my scanner, but its a great way to quickly preview a roll. I think I may be able to use it to make a contact sheet as well from one image taken of every frame laid out on a light table. But I will need to get my tripod setup first. This video is essentially the user manual
  4. I dont think my 40mm pancake lens (which I no longer have) would have worked on the EF-M as the focus ring in electronic. I assume for lenses where the focus ring actually moves the lens (i.e. you can focus them camera manually through the viewfinder when it is turned off), it would be fine. I am hoping someone who knows a bit about canons AF circuit may chime in here though. If the AF circuit has been disabled that absolutely mean the IS would be as well as a consequence? Or are they separate?
  5. Hello. Yes I have an EF lens with image stabilization and great focus ring. I like simplicity. I have one lens. But I also miss my manual focus camera. I was thinking of getting an EF-m just for fun as I assume they cost about the same as a McDonalds meal for 2. If the IS on an EF lens worked on the 1/2 press that would be very very cool for no other reason that its a bit unique (even though I know the AF wont obviously). If it didnt, I probably would pass. But, if no one knows, I might buy anyway for fun and report back :)
  6. I have a the original eos 1 here in my hand (i.e. not the 1v or the 1n). Ordered it from ebay at very good condition (which it is) for ~120 dollars Canadian. Everything works perfectly except that the aperture values in the viewfinder are scrambled. Shutter speeds are fine. Its impossible to tell what value you are cycling through. Everything is fine on the top deck display. But it is still very annoying and I am not sure I can live with it. The seller did offer a full refund upon return or 80 dollar refund and I keep the camera. I chose to take the refund and keep the camera. I may sell it, unless there is some way to fix this issue? I do like it. I imagine this is likely an electronic gremlin which cannot be fixed...but perhaps its the focusing screen? Thanks
  7. The biggest problem here is that there is not a single store in my city carries any sigma camera. So I cant even try or rent before buying to decide if I hate it. If they did carry one, it would likely make me buy an RP asap....so really they should. But until that happens I will continue to fantasize about that which I cannot have. It is not for lack of trying that I am unable to know, there is just no way to know, that is out of my control. Yes, the other sigma is not out yet, but it will be, and well, I wont get to try that one out either. So instead I retreat to the dusty corner of my office and foolishly decide to ask the internet what it thinks. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't know either <<<< we are here
  8. you know, sometimes I toy with the idea of the pentax Q haha. Super tiny sensor and camera. Their 60-200 f2.8 equivalent zoom is the size of the a nifty 50, with IBIS. Hows that for some candid street shooting...
  9. And going back to that best 50mm thread, which unexpectedly exploded on me haha,..I did buy the tamron 45mm in canon mount and it’s great. I will still be keeping that lens and my canon rebel t2 for special case hand held night photography with provia and Tmax 400. Kodak gold 200 I have also been pleasantly surprised with. This is a small insta file, and a bit blurry perhaps at higher mag, but for insta it’s fine and I’m sure this was at 1/3 s or 1/2s. Just to illustrate that combo. I may have been leaning. Tmax 400 @ 400. Perfectly happy with 400iso at night with that set up, if it too dark on top of that, I just put the camera away.
  10. Thank you, that is a good perspective. You are right, I am hoping it’s a Merrill sensor. And you are also right in that if it is, the Quattro would be a Mis step
