1.
Thought I'd post a few photos from my first roll taken with my newest toy... It arrived in the mail last week, and is a Series A Contarex, manufactured between 1959-60 according to the serial number, with the 50mm F2 Planar lens. My copy is in full operational order, and the selenium lightmeter seems about right to me compared with my VC II meter, and iPhone light meter app: at least with the tests I've done at 100 and 400 ISO thus far.

It truly is a beast of a camera, weighing in at 1.2kg: and is very solidly built. My only annoyance is when first getting to know it a couple of days ago, I turned one of the locking lugs on the camera back the wrong way, and stupidly kept turning until the whole assembly loosened and came apart, washers and all. Try as I might, I'm not able to put it back together with the proper alignment, and although the back closes light-tight, it won't lock shut...to be on the safe side I left it in the half-case for this first roll. Might take it into the local classic camera repair place to see if they can put it right, otherwise I know there are plenty of the interchangeable backs available instead.

I'm certainly pleased with my first roll, and for interest I relied on the camera's light meter for all of the exposures, although looking at the results I probably could have used the incident light meter function for a few of the strongly back-lit high contrast situations: I'll know for next time. Although these cameras have a reputation for being ergonomic nightmares, I found it pretty easy to use. I just love how this Planar lens renders!

Film was FP4+, box speed, Ilfosol 3- 4min at 24C, scanned on my Epson 4490.

Enjoy...Remi
