1.
Scott,
Thanks again for your input. He specifically, by discipline, was not a photographer and it'd be safe to assume that it was his camera by the nature of many of the pics.
On the part about ownership of the equipment that you bring up, I have an issue with the local tax assessor that is contradictory to "ownership" of equipment. If my tax assessor walks in and I have my personal items inside my place of employment, or on my company vehicle, then the company is deemed to be the owner and they will add the proper dollar amount to the company's inventory list so that it will be taxed accordingly. (Basically they are reaching out for every possible tax dollar they can get) Working inside Controlled Industrial Areas that can make getting personal items back out a challenge at times....more paperwork. Yes I go on military bases and have to get releases for items brought out, and the local tax assessor's have been given access to the bases for the ability to "spot check" the business license and inventory on companies providing services on these bases.

 2.
To all, thanks so much for the responses. You have all answered with what I thought to be correct, but my general search technique was unable to verify. Thanks so much!

Rich

 3.
Brad, yes that is the question. I'd think that there is nothing to worry about, and I know there is no sensitive or compromising information in these. Some are candid with shipmates and some are action/ in the moment warfare; but nothing really gross and graphic. I have been to meetings with the military and I'm often amazed how childish some of these things turn, and just want to prepared. I have seen the um....private allocation of Gov't property from those within the military and figure that might turn up as well(1 out of 1000 chance).

 4.
So, while going thru stuff that was found in my wife's childhood home, I was awarded a box of camera stuff. Mainly slides that were from the 1950's to early 1970's. I scanned them and while the extended family was gathered I made the images available for all to see. Many requested copies, and I have dutifully supplied in whatever format they wanted. In this stuff was a group taken by my wife's father when he was in the Mekong Delta as an adviser (1966-67) in the small boats squadrons. I find a few of these quite good and I have had a couple printed 20" on the long side and they hold up well. We live in a NAVY town, and incidentally the small boat guys are a client of mine. I have thought about gifting a couple of prints to these guys, and additionally actually showing them at a local art show and maybe perhaps one of the local watering-holes during the various reunions that happen, and giving credit to my deceased father-in-law, and noting his rank / unit at the time. So my question is do you think that since he was there in the military, that the military may see these and claim they have ownership? Currently I feel that my wife is the current owner of the image and I am just the caretaker.
