  1. My advice, if your lens takes bay 50, they are affordable and plentiful - get a few.. If it takes bay 60... They are very expensive and hard to find used. I would get an adapter to use 67mm filters. The adapters are cheap and the 67mm filters are much less $ than the Bay 60 filters.
  2. One thing I forgot to mention, once you get the number of lens you want - you will be focusing on film backs. 1 is OK, but 2 is more the norm. I have 3 and that covers the scenes I shoot. I may add a 4th for pushed film... When getting these backs, make sure they are designed to take 120 film. You should always go with a back designed to take 120 film ( or 120 and 220). Why not a 220back? 220 is slowly disappearing (I think only Portra is available in 220). Make sure the serial numbers on the back and the back insert match and the dark slide is in great shape.
  3. Medium format is different, but not a huge learning curve. Just go with films you know. Overexpose Portra and 400H, shoot Ektar as rated (maybe a Half stop extra), know how to push Tri-X, etc. you will be just fine. Just know that the FOV is wider, but the DoF and the "compression" is true to the lens. For lens, I wanted a 2 lens system with FOV similar to yours. I went with a 60 (35mm equiv) and a 150 (85mm equiv) and have been very happy. The 60 is a great walk around, landscape, and environmental portrait lens. The 150 is a great portrait lens and I love it for what it is. The 645 is a great focal length, but not for hasselblad or Bronica portraits. The way the film feeds makes a 645 a wide ratio. Can't really flip these WL cameras side ways. It would be fine for environmental portraits... But not better than a 6X6. Stick with the square IMO. You found the right forum, these guys are great.
  4. Thank you all for your feedback. I will find a very dark space and pull the film tonight. Then rewind it. Then re-load it in the light. First shot will have the lens cap on... Just in case.
  5. I thought it stopped.... Hard to remember. Only shows that it is on the second shot. I am tempted to re- load it just to see. Paid WAY too much for a busted film back. Thanks guys.
  6. I bought an A12 film back and I have already put one roll thru it. I loaded the second roll last weekend and I went out and took a couple (2) of pictures. After coming in, I noticed the red half circle was completely red. I did not validate it was white, so I can't say if anything changed when I loaded it. Either I somehow failed to reset the indicator to white, miss loaded something, or the film back is defective. I plan to cycle theu the next 9 shots this week and re load... But I really don't want to waste any film if it is bad. Any I sight from the experts on this forum would be appreciated. BTW, I bought it from KEH and it is still in warranty... Hoping this is a user error though.
  7. Thank you all for your feedback. My takeaway is that my lens have a half stop in aperture, and to OVEREXPOSE slightly rather thn to UNDEREXPOSE. Ironically, digital is the opposite... Glad I asked. Thanks again!
  8. JD, you are right! It does not show it, but there are half clicks between aperture settings. Makes the use of filters easier! Thanks!
  9. When your light meter is between readings, is it better to slightly over expose or slightly under expose? Any guidelines you guys can share? Shooting Tri-x, portra, and Ektar with a 500cm and a 60mm + 150mm set up. Thanks in advance.
  10. Update: I borrowed a friends Bronica 6x6 and shot 2 rolls of film (Ektar) to see if a one lens set up (75mm) would do it. There were a few keepers... And I now know one lens won't cut it. So I have a 60 and a 150 on the hasselblad and plan to take it out this weekend. Ektar is great for landscapes, but I think Tri-X and Portrait are more my speed for anything involving people. Thanks again
  11. KEH is running a 20% off special and they just got in an EX black A12. I could not resist. Now I just need a lens! We'll see... Either a 80 or a 150. Since I am a one lens kind of guy.... Prob the 80. Gotta sell a set of golf clubs, then I am ready to go. It's all coming together... Thx again for all you help.
  12. Thanks again. Igorcamera looks promising, as do Adorama and BH. With a little luck, I will have a system by this time next month!
  13. Thank you all for the help, this has been a TON of great information. I was a bit shocked at the B&H price though... $220-330. Oh well, may be the best way to get a good back. G.Lindzey, where did you see the 2 backs for $99? I might give them a call.. 2 for the price of one... Again, thanks for all the help.
